Restylane and Juvederm are trade names for dermal fillers. They are both forms of a natural compound called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally found in humans and all animals. What makes it work so well as a dermal filler is that it is highly attracted to water and so it will hold water under the skin surface. The water not only fills in the wrinkles, but it looks and feels soft and completely natural. They are FDA approved.

Both Juvederm and Restylane are fairly long-lasting. Treatments are generally recommended every eight to twelve months.

Possible Negative Effects of Juvederm and Restylane

Since these compounds are nothing more than natural hyaluronic acid, there are very few side effects. There have been occasional reports of bruising or swelling as a side effect of the injection. This only lasts a day or two. Rarely, there have been reports of hypersensitivity reactions.
